Sophia Ponté (b.1996) is a painter and printmaker based in Dorset whose work explores identity and our connection with the natural world.
Drawing and writing outdoors ground her in local environments, where particular attention is given to ordinary moments that spark curiosity or mark change. Scientific and creative methods of observation often converge, informed by a co-existing identity as both veterinarian and artist. Materials play a central role in Ponté’s process—from sourcing raw pigments to making her own paints—treating the act of creation itself as a dialogue with her subject. By rendering the everyday sacred, the viewer is invited to consider their own values and relationship with our fragile, ever-changing environment.
Ponté holds a Veterinary MB from the University of Cambridge (2021) and is currently attending the Online Drawing Development Year at the Royal Drawing School.
“Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting – over and over announcing your place in the family of things.” — Mary Oliver, Wild Geese
